Even though it may be cold where you are and a few high profile professional fishing events have taken place in Florida, the true start to the big time bass fishing year is upon us. Today 51 pro anglers are out on Shreveport, Louisiana’s Red River for their final official day of practice for the 2012 Bassmaster Classic. This is their last chance to dial in their starting game plan to be named the next Bassmaster Classic Champion and be a half million dollars richer.
Colder, higher and muddier conditions then the 2009 Classic on the Red River and defending Red River Classic champ Skeet Reese not qualifying for this event are sure to cause things to have a different outcome this time around. Who is your pick to win?
It is expected to be a shallow fishing game plan to dominate this event; that is just the way rivers fish in the early spring. Expect reaction baits like spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs and square bill crankbaits to be a big part of anglers’’ arsenal as well as pitching soft plastics and jigs.
In the end, it is likely an angler that finds a little something to themselves or makes better adjustments then the anglers around him like KVD did last year. I think it is likely that KVD does not get the 3-peat this weekend and a new classic champion will be crowned, keep an eye on Greg Hackney, Edwin Evers & Brent Chapman.
Check back Monday for a full recap of Classic Week!
