Tip for Taming the Alabama Rig

Alabama Rigs, Castable Alabama Rigs, A-Rigs, whatever you want to call them, they are making lots of noise on the bass fishing scene for the last six months.  If you ever fished them, you have probably realized they are not the easiest thing to manage when not in use.

Whether in your tackle box or on the deck of your boat, they tend to tangle and grab everything in sight.  Their arms tend to branch out and with 3-5 jig heads depending on your local regulations, they are completely different then just having a crankbait or a jig on your boat deck.

Great part is, this is inexpensive and super simple.  Get some split rings, around size #3 seems to work for the A-Rigs I have (Yumbrella, PackMan, Agitator, Elite Umbrellas), and a split ring pliers.

Just take a split ring and open slightly with your pliers and slowly work each wire into the ring so that your ring goes around all the arms of you’re A-rig then slide it up towards the head of your rig.  Up towards the head, it is out of the way and does not affect the fish attracting of your baits, but for storage slide the ring towards the swivels that attach the heads and it bunches the arms tightly together and you can even put a lure wrap on it at that point.source:

If it seems confusing and my pictures are not getting it across, check out this quick video
I made showing how to feed the arms into the split ring and how the split ring slides back and forth.  If you still need A-rig suppliers, here is a whole page of Rigs, jig heads & soft plastic bodies.

Hope this tip saves you as much headaches as it already has for me!
