Football Jig Largemouth Spring is always a great time for fishing, some of the biggest bass are shallow and hungry, but as the seasonal pages turn, things tend to get a little tricky. Shallow fish can still be caught, but they definitely start to move a lot more and can be downright stubborn.
So as most of our kids are getting out of school about now, I am ready for large groups of smallmouth and largemouth bass to start congregating for the summer. I’ve long preferred to pluck bass from the shallows when I can, but for some reason this year I have a bug real bad to start scanning the lakes with my electronics for some large wads of predictably located bass. Armed with side imaging technology and state of the art electronic mapping, I plan to work hard in my upcoming practice periods to find multiple schools of quality bass.
Tungsten jigs, Football jigs and C-rigs will likely be my primary tools for extracting these fish from deep grass lines, rock piles and transition areas. There is nothing better than showing up in a tournament on a spot you discovered in practice to have an active school of quality fish going and working through them.
Finding deep fish is not always the easiest task in the world, but with today’s modern electronics it is easier all the time and when you do, your hard work will be rewarded!
