Abu Redesigns Popular Revo Baitcasters

When the news came out of Abu Garcia that they were in the midst of a complete redesign of their Revo line of baitcasters, I must admit to a bit of disbelief. Why mess with such popular line of products?  Yet, I was told by company officials that ABU engineers had three goals in mind for the project: 1. Make the reels more compact, which means even more comfortable to hold during a full day on the water; 2. Reduce weight, which offers a plethora of advantages including greater sensitivity; 3. More powerful. The reels now feature a new larger gear system for more efficient cranking power.

I write this, I have both the old and new models of the Revo Premier on my desk. The updates are clearly visible in the new model. The gear box is larger, the side plate is smaller, and according to company literature, the reel itself is just 5.87 ounces (previous model weighed 6.7 ounces). Plus, it has upgraded with the same brake system built in the the top-of-the-line Revo MGX.

Other models feature similar improvements:

*Revo STX is now 29% lighter than before and comes in gear ratios ranging from 6.4:1, 7.1:1 and the new super high-speed 8.0:1.

*Revo SX now weighs just 6.66 ounces, a weight reduction of 25% achieved by utilizing C6 Carbon in some components.

*Revo S is 15% lighter and now comes in white to match the Abu Garcia Veritas rod.

*Revo Winch has been upgraded with the Infiniti brake system and comes in at a 19% weight reduction.

Check out the photo attached to see the dimension differences of “old” versus “new.”—Steve

Skirted bass jigs have long been a staple in most bass anglers’ arsenal.  In the past several years, I have become very dedicated to jig fishing, before that I was quick to look past the jig for a Texas-rigged worm, craw, or tube.  Why the big change? With a little success, I built confidence in…

If the recent Bassmaster Classic highlights anything; If you are a tournament angler, you are often forced to fish in all conditions, many of them less then ideal and some down right awful.
